On October 16, 1891, Theodore Thomas led the Chicago Orchestra—on its first-ever concert—in Dvořák’s Husitská Overture. This week, Riccardo Muti conducts the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the Husitská Overture, along with Hindemith’s Concerto Music for Strings and Brass, Ravel’s orchestration of Mussorgsky’s Pictures from an Exhibition, and Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor, featuring CSO principal cello John Sharp. Rounding out this program, Muti conducts the Orchestra in Catalani’s Contemplazione.
