This season, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra observes the 100th anniversary of the 1918 Armistice that ended World War I, then referred to as “the war to end all wars.” Since that era, composers across the decades have found compelling ways to honor war victims and celebrate the triumph of the human spirit through the transformative power of music. Throughout the 2018-19 season, the CSO will showcase works with timeless messages of hope and peace that remain relevant in a modern world.

The CSO will commemorate the Armistice with “A Time for Reflection — A Message of Peace,” programming anchored by a set of CSO subscription concerts led by guest conductor Marin Alsop on Oct. 18-20. The program features the world premiere of Threnos by French composer Bruno Mantovani, commissioned by the CSO and the Pritzker Military Foundation.

This CSO world premiere will be complemented by pre-concert lectures, a companion exhibit and musical performances at Symphony Center, the Pritzker Military Museum & Library and the Mayne Stage.
