Throughout the 2014/15 season, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra  celebrates Pierre Boulez, its Helen Regenstein Conductor Emeritus, on the occasion of his 90th birthday. Along with the world-premiere Beyond the Score production of “A Pierre Dream,” the CSO has scheduled concerts that salute Boulez’s work as a composer, conductor and mentor. Pianists Pierre-Laurent Aimard, a longtime Boulez collaborator, and Tamara Stefanovich will perform the composer’s keyboard works for one and two pianos in a Symphony Center Presents recital March 15. “Boulez’s Workshop” is the theme of a MusicNOW concert March 23 featuring the composer’s Derive 2, dedicated to fellow modernist pioneer Elliott Carter.  Also part of the tribute is a CSO Radio Series broadcast of Boulez conducting the CSO in 2007 and 2010 in works by Janáček, Bartók, Haydn and Bernard Rands, to be aired March 22 on WFMT-FM and the WFMT Radio Network nationwide, and streamed on CSO Sounds & Stories.

Boulez, universally regarded as the godfather of contemporary classical music, turns 90 on March 26, 2015.
