French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, whose latest disc is “The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I” on Deutsche Grammophon, discusses his approach to Bach in an interview with the site Resmusica (in French). “When I was young, my education was based in part — like most pianists — on learning many of [Bach’s] Preludes and Fugues,” he says. “But at the time, I did not have a true notion of style. Since then, my interpretation of Bach in general has changed dramatically.”
