Marc-André Hamelin, who will perform Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D Minor with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on May 8-10, talks about his tricks of the trade in this short video, originally recorded a few seasons ago for the CSO’s Keys to the City Festival. “I can’t imagine a better instrument to play,” Hamelin said. “The instrument itself is so full of colors; it’s black and white, yes, and sometimes brown [laughs]. But it’s so full of any colors you can put into it. It’s there; it’s just waiting for you to draw it out.”
