For the second concert on its fall tour, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra returned to historic Hill Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus. The CSO has a longstanding relationship with Ann Arbor, with more than 200 performances there since 1892. To celebrate this commitment, CSO violist and UM alum Max Raimi made a special arrangement of the university’s fight song “The Victors,” which Maestro Riccardo Muti and the CSO performed as a surprise opener to the scheduled program of Beethoven’s Fifth and Mahler’s First.
