Information for Visitors

Visitors are Welcome!

The Library supports study and teaching at the University. Central to our mission are the vast collections we develop, the expertise we provide, the excellent services we offer, and the environments we create. The distinctive rare book, manuscript and archival holdings of the Special Collections Research Center are available for your research.

Access and Policies

Access and services available depend on your research needs, or your affiliation with another institution. For details, see our Access and Privileges pages. If you are a first-time visitor, we encourage you to contact the ID and Privileges Office before your visit; staff will help you determine what collections and services are available to you and how to establish access.

The Library Catalog and archival finding aids are available to help you search our collections.

When in the libraries, you will be able to use most of electronic resources to which we subscribe. For more information, please see Library Guest Credentials and Wireless Access for Visitors. Access to these resources from off-campus is available only to current University of Chicago faculty, students and staff.

Photocopying, printing, and scanning is available to visitors for a fee. Learn more about photocopying, printing, and scanning in the Library.
