Breaking with convention, pianist Mitsuko Uchida and soprano Dorothea Röschmann present Schumann’s song cycle Frauenliebe und -leben for piano and voice in this CSO concert. On either side, Uchida plays and conducts one of Mozart’s piano concertos. The two interview tracks below include Uchida’s insightful commentary on Mozart and Schumann, stories of preparing Mozart with Sir Colin Davis, and how listening to a recording of the song cycle by soprano Elisabeth Schumann (1888-1952) taught her more about the deep expression in the piece.
