Congratulations to Symphony Center favorite John Williams, whose theme for the film “Jurassic Park” (1993) has scored the top spot on a Billboard chart.

For the week ending June 27, Billboard magazine reports that Williams’ “Jurassic Park” theme went to No. 1 on the Classical Digital Songs chart (a category that didn’t even exist in 1993). Riding the dino-mite box office of the sequel “Jurassic World” (which opened with the highest weekend tally of all time), Williams’ instrumental track has sold 189,000 downloads on its re-release thus far. It surged ahead of the Piano Guys cover of the “Jurassic Park” theme, which landed in second place. Over on the soundtrack albums chart, Michael Giacchino’s score for “Jurassic World,” an homage to Williams’ original, docks at No. 6.

In 1993, the “Jurassic Park” soundtrack peaked at No. 36 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

The CSO will perform selections from Williams’ scores in a sold-out concert June 25 at the Morton Arboretum. But if you missed getting tickets for that performance, there will be more music by Williams when the CSO plays his Oscar-nominated score for “Home Alone” (1990) on an SCP Special Event program Dec. 11-13. Tickets go on sale in July.
