Everyone knows that Mitsuko Uchida, who begins a three-week residency at Symphony Center on March 9, is among the classical music world’s greatest pianists.
But did you know that she’s also a Tour de France addict, a self-professed “Sudoku freak” and prefers not to see the color red while performing onstage? Or that she owns four Steinways, which are “like human beings – all men.”
Uchida, who will perform in recital on March 9, will lead the CSO from the piano in works by Mozart and Schubert on March 13-18 and then will solo in the Schumann Piano Concerto under Riccardo Muti on March 20-22, reveals all this and more in an interview printed in the Guardian.
Her most recent solo disc, released by Decca in September, is devoted to later works by Schumann (click here for excerpts), is available at the Symphony Center Store, 67 E. Adams.
Note: There will be a post-concert CD signing with Mitsuko Uchida in Grainger Ballroom after the March 14 matinee.
