Theodore Thomas, founder and first music director of the Chicago Orchestra, insisted that his young ensemble also needed its own chorus in order to perform important works in the repertoire. In 1896, the Chorus of the Association was founded to  achieve that goal. However, its existence would be short-lived . . .
