WXRT-FM personality Terri Hemmert knows her music — rock as well as classical — and she calls Faure’s Requiem “one of the most beautiful pieces I’ve ever heard in my life.”
Led by Charles Dutoit, with guest soloists Chen Reiss and Matthias Goerne, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will perform Fauré’s Requiem in concerts April 13-15. Hemmert, emcee of the CSO’s Classic Encounter series, will host a pre-concert lecture at the April 13 program.
“This one’s so different, because it’s so gentle. It’s so sweet,” she said. “It’s not the usual Day of Wrath … [she growls] here comes the devil! It will bring such peace and beauty into your life. I urge you to come. … Just let the music take over your soul.”
Hemmert hopes to seal the deal with an offer that listeners can’t refuse: “If you don’t love it, I will take you to tesori afterward, and I will buy you a drink. If it’s the best thing you’ve ever heard in your life, you better take me out for a drink. I’ll see you there.”
