All too often, classical music is considered to be a privilege for the wealthy — or even a luxury or novelty. This is indeed a double-edged sword: high-level music making is labor-intensive and expensive, and often relies upon the generosity of benefactors; but music must also be everywhere in society and within reach. The students we encountered have dreams and passions that can only be satisfied through music, and musical education should be available to anyone who desires it.
