Following Gil Shaham‘s performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto on Sunday, December 3, he returned to the stage and performed a special encore on a 1733 Bergonzi violin, that was owned by Fred Spector, a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1956 until 2003. Spector passed away earlier this year, and this past weekend’s concerts were dedicated to his memory.
