Ahead of the second concert at the Musikverein, a group of CSO musicians performed for students of the Akademisches Gymnasium Wien. Featured at the chamber-music performance were CSO violins Gina DiBello and Yuan-Qing Yu, violist Diane Mues and cellist Kenneth Olsen. Afterward, the CSO players fielded questions from the students, many of which were variations on the theme of “when did you know that you wanted to make music your life?”

Then it was back to the Musikverein, lauded for its acoustical warmth, for a full concert of works by Catalani, Strauss and Tchaikovsky, under the baton of Riccardo Muti. Two more stops on the European Tour 2017 remain: Baden-Baden and Frankurt.
