For the first stop of their East Coast Tour 2018, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, under Music Director Riccardo Muti, performed Feb. 7 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The concert marked a series of firsts: the CSO’s first performance at the Kennedy Center since 2005, the first East Coast performance of Mead Composer-in-Residence Samuel Adams’ many words of love, and the first performance with Muti and CSO together at the Kennedy Center.

Another milestone: the performance marked Muti’s 350th concert leading the orchestra since making his CSO podium debut in 1973.

From Washington, the CSO and Muti move on to New York City for two concerts Feb. 9-10 at the landmark Carnegie Hall, and then on to performances in Florida and North Carolina.
