On a free day in Milan, Chicago Symphony Orchestra musicians and staff took in the sights, including an excursion to Cremona, a center for musical instrument manufacturing since the 16th century. An hour south of Milan, Cremona is known for the legendary luthiers of the Amati, Guarneri and Stradivari houses. Meanwhile, back in Milan, Riccardo Muti appeared at a press event at La Scala, where he was music director for 19 years. He will lead the CSO in two concerts at the historic theater, marking the CSO’s first appearance there since 1981.
