Ahead of his leading the Chicago Symphony Chorus in the season-opening concerts of Beethoven’s Ninth, CSO Chorus Director Duain Wolfe will mark the 30th anniversary of his Colorado Symphony Chorus with three performances of this masterwork over the next month.
On Aug. 17, Wolfe and the CSC will perform Beethoven’s Ninth at the 2014 Aspen Music Festival, one of three dates at which they will present this choral spectacular. “It’s such a triumphant and exciting piece,” said Wolfe in a recent interview with Colorado Public Radio. “As many times as I’ve done it, I keep finding new things.”
Wolfe, who founded the Colorado Symphony Chorus in 1984, also serves as chorus master for the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada. Back at Chicago’s Symphony Center, Beethoven’s Ninth will be presented Sept. 18, 20 (Symphony Ball), 21 and 23. All four performances are sold out.
