The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus’s first performance of Gounod’s Messe solennelle en l’honneur de Sainte-Cécile—the Saint Cecilia Mass—is featured on today’s program, with soloists Sandrine Piau, Michael Schade, and Andrew Foster-Williams. Guest conductor Alain Altinoglu also leads the Orchestra and Chorus in Poulenc’s Gloria, as well as an orchestral suite from Prokofiev’s opera The Love for Three Oranges. Concluding the program, Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts a suite from Ravel’s Mother Goose.
