In the fall of 2015, the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra launched two exciting new partnership programs for Chicago Public Schools: an in-school residency program, and a teacher professional development and curriculum building community. On this page, you will find more information about the curriculum program, in addition to documentation of the work completed in its first year including: teacher testimonials, an in-depth exploration of professional development workshops, and an overview of the culminating event.
About the Curriculum Program
This program is a teacher professional development community for CPS teachers from arts and non-arts classrooms. Through participation in five workshops, teachers analyze school data to develop foci for an integrated arts curriculum unit and collaborate with peers within their school and across schools to deliver high quality instruction.
The five participating schools — Agassiz Elementary School, Clinton Elementary School, Walt Disney Magnet School, Edwards Elementary School, and Swift Elementary School — also receive in-school performances and classroom visits by CSO and Civic ensembles, attend a CSO School Concert, and participate in a culminating event that celebrates student and teacher work.
