“The musical meeting of Grammy Award-winning pianists Chucho Valdés and Gonzalo Rubalcaba is like that of two masters of language and longtime friends,” writes Claire Dickson in a feature for Boston’s NPR affiliate WBUR-FM. “They finish each other’s sentences, have impassioned debates and share stories freely.”

Now touring with their duo project “Trance,” Valdés and Rubalcaba will perform Feb. 23 in an SCP Jazz concert at Orchestra Hall. Both natives of Cuba, now living in the United States, they share many common bonds. “We have the same starting point,” Valdés said, “even though we are two different generations. … “We try to establish a dialogue about the history of Afro-Cuban jazz and jazz in all of its styles.”
