Bruckner’s monumental Eighth Symphony was the sole work on this concert, and is the center of attention for this program with conductor Semyon Bychkov. In the interview below, Bychkov talks about the tensions running through the work, between faith and doubt, conflict and resolution, as well as how little of Bruckner’s music was performed when he grew up in the Soviet Union. Following the Bruckner is a recording from 1954 led by Fritz Reiner.
