Riccardo Muti, music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, has written a book, Verdi, l’Italiano (Rizzoli), to mark the bicentennial of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth.

In the volume, Muti leads readers on a journey to discover, understand and appreciate Verdi and his music through examples of arias from Rigoletto to Il Trovatore  and through his characters from Aida to Otello. He teaches the reader how to listen to and appreciate music by guiding them through the twists and turns of Verdi’s life, and in the process, unveiling a historical background that reveals much about Italy and its people.

This book is currently available throughout Europe. An autographed copy of the Italian version of the book is available from RiccardoMutiMusic.com.
