Letter from Georgia Finley to Louie
Title
Letter from Georgia Finley to Louie
Description
Georgia writes about her busyness, stating that "this is Sunday but no one would know it…. Work is letting up a little but we shall probably have another convoy in soon. Our work is getting to be more of an evacuation hospital than a base. Many cases come to us directly from the field - sometimes not first-aid treatment and then patients are kept here only a short time then returned to the front or sent to a rest camp." She adds "Some way or other tonight I don't seem to think of any thing but more invalid cookery, nurses, messes, and the sick laying in the hospitals. One good thing about the sick men, they were in such excellent condition when they went into the army that if it is only a wound and not a vital organ they recuperate quickly. They are usually so hungry when they get to us that it takes a number of days for an ordinary meal to satisfy. I wish it were possible always to give them all they wanted all the time. At present with us oatmeal, potatoes, fruit, and cocoa are exceeding short." Lastly, Georgia writes that "As I sit here and look out of my window - an American and a Frenchman are conversing together. It is surprising how quickly a few words are picked up. The Americans like the Frenchmen much better than they do the British - they say the British are too domineering. They also admire the Canadians and Australians. Are you packing any Red Cross comfort bags - They are much appreciated by the boys and fill a dire need in the hospital when the boys come in from the battlefield with nothing but what they have on their back. Our chief nurse remarked today that they certainly helped out very much."
