Letter from Georgia Finley to Louie after the armistice

Georgia writes home with joy after the armistice: "Well it is all over! What joy! The news was officially given out during the morning. First indirectly that troops stationed near here and ready to go to the front were ordered not to go as no more were needed. Then the French communique gave out that the armistice was signed and the war ended. This afternoon [] twenty-one shots were fired announcing it from a military standpoint...." Georgia states: "Lt. Col. Clark assembled the officers and boys of the unit together and told them it was finished and to be prepared for the next move. We all are thinking tonight 'Where do we go from here boys, where do we go from here?' We have a goodly number of very sick patients with us and probably more will be sent in so that the hospital will be busy for some weeks yet but I can't help but feel that for us that the heaviest is over..." She continues: "the mayor with tears trickling down his face greeted Col. Clark with the French salutation - a kiss on either cheek. A little French woman whom I am fond of greeted me the same way. They are all so happy to have it over. It doesn't seem as though it should be a time of great jollification but one of thanksgiving that it is all over. So far we have not had a noisy demonstration and I hope we do not. This is the first night we have not had the camouflage over windows since coming to France. Tonight street lights are glowing and our windows are ablaze with light." She comments upon the end of presumed end of censorship, and then concludes her letter by writing: "Don't forget to keep up your writing and I shall try to keep you informed as to our moves." Georgia then writes that she hopes to be "sworn out of the army and your own again."
