Letter from Georgia Finley to Louie

Georgia, at the end of the first page of this letter, writes "It almost makes me wish I were back in the states… but then I wouldn't give up this work here at present unless they made me until at least the end of my year - Dec. 2." Georgia is hopeful about the events of the war, writing "Aren't we doing splendidly, these days? If we only dared to hope it is the decisive struggle. The papers tonight are more encouraging than ever." She also talks about her work in the hospitals, describing the hard work of her superior nurses. She writes "I have been so busy that I have not been among the patients much of late, but I think every day I will spend so much time talking to them, for they are lonesome just to talk to someone besides themselves. I was going through the corridors the other day and just stopping occasionally to say something to someone - when one of the poor fellows called out Say sister come here, and all he wanted was to talk." Georgia writes that "We have a Red Cross worker who goes among the boys and, especially, the very sick but one woman among so many can't find much time with each one. I sometimes feel as if I should like to do nothing but go from one room to the other and listen to their tales for they are usually most interesting. There have been a few companies that have written their history into this drive with an indelible ink. I wonder if we can ever appreciate their patriotism..."
