Letter from Frank Connor to Dr. W.E. Simonds
Title
Letter from Frank Connor to Dr. W.E. Simonds
Description
Knox student and soldier Frank Connor writes to Dr. Simonds from "Somewhere In Belgium" that "I often think of you and the courses I took from you while at Knox. It is always with pleasure that I think of my days at Knox College and many many times I have thought of those good times since I have been over here. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving day and I was just thinking of how much I would enjoy seeing Knox College wallop Monmouth in a good lively football game. But I guess I'll have to wait until another year for that." Connor reflects on the devastated countryside of Belgium, saying, "I read of what the people of Belgium were going through but I never realized the conditions until I saw them. These people have suffered greatly during the war but not for one minute have they given up home of having their homes back again and I can tell you it is an enjoyable sight, tho a sad one sometimes to see them coming back to their homes. An American soldier in Belgium is treated very well indeed." Connor finishes his letter by noting, "I have been feeling real well and am beginning to look forward to the big day when I'll see the Statue of Liberty again."
