Letter from Russell H. Taylor to Dr. W.E. Simonds
Title
Letter from Russell H. Taylor to Dr. W.E. Simonds
Description
Russell H. Taylor writes to Dr. Simonds to let him know that, while he had received scholarship money for the college and "am very grateful to you for it," he could not accept it, as he had enlisted in the Army. Taylor was located in Camp Jackson in South Carolina, where "They give the men intensive training... which is modeled after the style of training given in France. Every man who finishes the training in this camp is a specialist in one particular thing." He also writes of his new life at Camp Jackson, telling Dr. Simonds, "I have been here only two days and have been assigned to no battery yet, but I have had some drill. The heat here is more intense than I have been used to, but I am sure that after a summer here, I will be able to stand the hottest variety that the Hun has to offer."
