Dr. W.A. Schofield was a visiting professor at Knox College in 1918, and this biography notes that "Before coming to Knox, Dr. Schofield had suffered the loss of a son, who had been killed in active service in Italy. This made his work doubly hard, but in spire of this handicap he was able to deliver his remarkable lectures which brought out his great character."
